Celebrate Recovery

Celerbate Recovery exists to help people find freedom from hurts, habits and hang-ups including addictions, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors.

The purpose of First Methodist of Midland’s Celebrate Recovery ministry is to fellowship and celebrate God´s healing power in our lives through the “8 Recovery Principles.” This experience allows us to “be changed.” We open the door by sharing our experiences, strengths and hopes with one another. In addition, we become willing to accept God´s grace in solving our lives´ problems. By working and applying these Biblical principles, we begin to grow spiritually. We become free from our addictive, compulsive and dysfunctional behaviors. This freedom creates peace, serenity, joy and most importantly, a stronger personal relationship with God and others. As we progress through the program we discover our personal, loving and forgiving Higher Power – Jesus Christ, the one and only true Higher Power.

Hello, my name is Wade Cobb and I am the Director of the Celebrate Recovery program here at First Methodist Midland. Among many other things Celebrate Recovery (CR) is a ministry that highlights the “Power of the Gospel” (Romans 1:16) to change lives through face-to-face compassion, knowing the reality and depth of man’s sinful nature (Romans 3:23), while all along holding up the banner of hope – not only of Heaven but of a victorious life here on Earth (John 10:10). There is a great story from CR’s history that demonstrates the “Power of the Gospel” at work in people’s lives. A major turning point in the life of CR’s founding church, Saddleback, occurred a couple of years after CR had already been recognized as an official ministry of the church. Their pastor, Rick Warren, seeing how many lives and families were being changed through CR decided to take his entire church of 6,000 members through an eight week sermon series called “The Road to Recovery”. After the Bible study and hearing and seeing the many incredible testimonies coming out of their own church as a result of the CR ministry, the people of Saddleback fell in love with and embraced CR 100 percent. Children saw their moms and dads changed, moms and dads saw their children changed, restored relationships between brothers and sisters, and friends saw friends changed by the “Power of the Gospel” through CR’s ministry. Why are there over 35,000 churches throughout the world that have a CR ministry? Why has there been over 3 Million plus people who have gone through the CR ministry since its beginning in 1991? Because CR works! Come and work CR so CR can work for you, too! Is CR for you? If you have a hurt, hang-up, or habit that you need freedom from then CR is for you. CR is not just for drug and alcohol addictions. If you are looking for a life free from: overworking, overeating, overspending, grief, guilt, anger/rage, fear/anxiety, divorce, abuse, sexual addictions, lying, procrastination, the need to control, or from any other hurt, hang-up, or habit then yes CR is for you. You are welcome to come visit us. We will be here every Tuesday night.
